“Let my life be given to me and my people’s at my request.” Book of Esther
The designs of ancient Persia are reflected in the panel. Faux marble floors are painted on the glass to simulate the beautiful stone and marble extensively used at the time. The breastplate of King Ahasuerus is copied from an ancient Persian costume. Esther is shown pointing with one hand to herself and with the other to the viewer as she pleads to the King, seated beside her, for her life and the lives of her people. The gallows, erected to destroy her people, are shown in the background.
