Our stained glass windows: Jechebet

Jechebet
Jechebet
“She put the child therein and laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.”
Exodus 1:22; 2:2-10

Jechebet, mother of Moses, is shown with large hands and gray tones in her face. She is a slave deprived of freedom, who must sacrifice her son that he might live. She releases the basket into the water. The Pharaoh’s daughter stands downstream under architectural pillars of Egypt. The yoke of her gown is opaque to represent barrenness. Miriam stands alone on the other side of the shore, adult-like in size, representing the mature role she plays in looking after her brother.
